"Hey Siri" Event Thoughts

I just finished watching Apple's "Hey Siri" event, and would be remiss if I didn't throw a few thoughts out there. It's already an hour past my teacher bedtime, so this is not formal or well thought out. They're a few things I noticed while watching.

  • People have been maligning Apple over the last few years for falling behind the competition, for not innovating, and for not creating anything exciting. Today showed that Apple plays the long game. Things have been put in place over the last few years to make the iPad Pro possible and iOS 9 is a huge part of that. This device would be useless without this OS. The Apple TV took 3 years, but the interface is intelligent and exciting. Apple doesn't do something because other people are or the media says they should. They make sure they get their products right, and they make sure it's worthwhile.
  • I love the potential of having a setup that includes a Retina iMac at home, and an iPad Pro for my portable work. That being said, this is not a purchase sight unseen kind of device for me. I want to see how it feels to hold and what the practical implications of that screen size are. I also want to see if developers embrace the iPad as a pro device and don't restrict the features of their apps.
  • That black stainless steel Apple Watch. Man. I wish that had been an option at the beginning.
  • Apple TV is an incredibly exciting product. The Siri interaction, if it works as advertised, will absolutely revolutionize television. Out of everything released today, this is the one I know for sure I will be purchasing.
  • The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have so many features that distinguish Apple as Apple. 3D Touch looks like a revolution in how people interact with touch screens. Knowing the rumors in advance, I didn't really see the point, but seeing it in action was amazing. Live Photos are such an unnecessary thing that could bring so much joy. It's the features like that that make me love what Apple does. It's not all about profit. It's about customer happiness.
  • One Republic is one of the best freaking bands. Period.
